They will and have stated several times it will be during 2015 and there is no way in hell you would need to re-purchase a card or whatnot seeing Avid will have records of you owning a HD license so the only thing we know for sure is that we will get info way ahead of time aka Dec 31st 2015

It is not the best way to go about this but its what it is for now and no one from Avid will give us any info until they have x-ed to t's and dotted the i's

I wish we could tell you this or that but we don't know more than ypu guys do.

For the last 4 years every move Avid makes is a bad P.R. move. I miss the Digidesign I fell in love with!!!

I agree.

Although to be fair they had their issues too, but never like this PT12 'emperor's new clothes' release.

I sincerely hope by December I will be singing a different tune, when the features I've been waiting 15 years for start to appear.

I truly hope that it's going to be like with MediaComposer. At first, every editor I know felt that this whole new model is a disaster, but now everyone praises the new model, happy about the direction and the new features and bug fixes.
Well, we'll see...

I think they'll introduce a software-only HD subscription plan (note the PT 11.3 start screen says "Pro Tools Software"), they're just holding off to not piss off those of use who had to buy the hardware just to get an HD licence. The days of Avid as a hardware company are over. You can already get Media Composer without hardware, so I can't see them having a different policy towards Pro Tools.
Interesting. I also think something will happen till Dec. 31st. No reason to 'panic' now. Plenty of time till then.

I can easily stay in PT 11 HDX DSP for the next 10 years, at which time I will be retired, or if I am still working, there may be a better option then.
Yes, it seems absurd *now*. But all of this are conclusions based on what's known *now*. There will be plenty of water flowing down the river.
I can't follow your conclusions regarding HDX.

Let's keep in mind that many users (me included) have 11HD license without hardware, updated from 10 + CPTK. Forcing those people to buy hardware they can't use would be ridiculous.

I agree that would be terrible, you should be able to use your HD license without hardware in PT12

Well ***at the moment*** if you buy into the upgrade plan before Jan 1st 2016 you don't have to buy hardware.

If today's conditions were valid on Jan 1st you'd have to because you can't buy PTHD without a card.

but again: that's all fictional and not worth getting upset about. There are still many months left for that to happen.

I recommend to read the FAQ about PT12 licensing. There are plenty of scenarios covered in there.

All sorts of issues with licensing, downloads disappearing from accounts they should be in, and appearing in one they shouldn't.

I decided to install it on my recently backed-up laptop for a giggle, but haven't opened it after reading that it may remove my PT11 licence from my iLok.

I'm going to wait until the waters settle a little... and won't be going there for a long time on my studio rig...
Your iLok license should retain 11 and 12. What most users were complaining of was installing 12 DELETED 11 on their HD. I got around that by simply adding '11' to the filename of 11. I did that so I could still run both until I decied to keep 12.

12 does seem a bit snappier to me...
