Default Thunderbolt HD Native cannot be recognized.

The HD thunderbolt native is not recognized by Pro tool 12 (not Pro too HD 12) with new mac pro (10.10). I downloaded all drivers, checked all the cable connections, digitest also passed. I can see the HDN in "about this mac", but I can't see it in both playback engine, I/O, also there is no input/output shown in midi/audio setup.

Am I missing somethings as I am a new pro tool user.

HD systems require HD software, and won't work with regular PT 12, or 11, or anything else. You will need the HD software license on your Ilok.

Yes, and HD hardware cannot be purchased without HD license so there is no problem at all.

Not sure if you were agreeing with me or not, but he mentioned he was using non-HD Protools, so I pointed out the obvious problem.

Thank you all for the reply.

I read on some articles mention that Pro tools 11 (regular) can run on HD native system. So I thought it could be running Pro tools 12 on my HD native system as well with no problem....anyway, just want to make sure what is the problem before I spend $1X K to purchase HD software.

Default Beginner: Pro tools 12 (not HD)with HD thunderbolt native system

Hi, I am a new pro tools user.

I bought a second hand HD 8x8x8 with thunderbolt native, and I bought a Pro tools 12 academic version (not HD) which I initially want to run it on my HD system. Finally, I found that HD system can only run HD software...

Can anyone give me some advices which way I should go for to exchange/upgrade my PT 12 to PTHD 12? Is it impossible to buy a PTHD12 without buying HD hardware? What can I do....

Hmmmm, you do need HD software, but its not absolute that you need version 12. You might shop for a second hand 10 or 11 HD asset. You will need some luck, but I have seen 10 and 11 HD for sale from time to time. Since the person that sold you the hardware without software, you could also pull that same trick. Find a deal on a new bundle, keep the software and sell the hardware
