upgrade from Pro Tools 6.0.2 & MAC OS 10.2.8
I am using an Apple Powerbook G4 12 inch/40g hard drive/768mb RAM with an external 300g Seagate external hard drive which is running MAC OS 10.2.8. I also have a Digi 002 Rack with Pro Tools 6.0.2 software. I have only used Pro Tools less than 10 times just for some basic two track live stereo recording for my band but I'm ready to start using it for its full potential.
Is it necesary to upgrade from my old version, I would think so because I purchased the unit around 3 years ago? Its been a few years and I would like to upgrade to as current as possible in BOTH without having any compatibility problems and hopefully not having to spend a lot. I am curious as to what my options are? I was thinking of going on eBay for a used MAC OS to save some money? What can I do for the newer Pro Tools version? I have never upgraded before, I checked out some of the update pages on the Digidesign site and I am TOTALLY confused(with all the charts and whatnot, lol) as to what I have to do? :P Any info that can point me in the right direction would be appreciated, thanks in advance! |

Re: upgrade from Pro Tools 6.0.2 & MAC OS 10.2.8
You don't say what speed your little PB runs at, but you should be fine with 10.3/6.4 as you are, and with another 250MB of RAM you should be good with 10.4/7 depending on your CPU speed, and how much you plan on doing. The newer OS are so much better than 10.2, and actually run faster on older hardware.
For each version of PTLE there is a qualified OS version(s), and Macs. Just because something is not qualified doesn't mean it won't work (my setup is a perfect example), but you need to be in the ballpark. The other thing about an "unsupported" setup is you're on your own if you have problems. |

Re: upgrade from Pro Tools 6.0.2 & MAC OS 10.2.8
oh, well there is nothing wrong with it. I just thought its good to have a bit newer set up, just curious.
Actually, like I said, other than using the setup for a few simple two track recordings, I haven't really tested it out. I wanted to ask the upgrade question because I am going to start using my ProTools setup for multi track stuff now. |
