Default CPU overload? That\'s rediculous

I just download 7.3 and can't play anything because "A CPU overload error occured" pop as soon as I click play. It wasn't as bad with 7.0. I have only 2 tracks active with 4 plugins.
I have G5 iMac 2.1 GHz. It may not be a lot but come on...

Chech you have the right plugins, it sounds like you have old versions on your mac.

if you have not already; try lowering the playback buffer

Lowering or raising buffer does not change much at all.

A friend of mine who works at MEtalworks Studio dropped by and was surprised to see my system usage window. With only 5 tracks active and 1 or 2 plugins in each, the meter is to the middle.
I think Comprodman is right. The main hoggers are the Amplitube plugs. Aplitube 2 takes like 1/4 of the power.
Evern though, my friend told me it is not normal. He opens a super loaded session on a similar computer at home and it is fine

Any other sugestions?

Anyway, with all 11 plugins gisabled my CPU is at 50%.
In the Activity monitor it is the only program sucking all the juice.
It's just crazy. How can I use it if it stops all the time with 2.1 GHz CPU overload.
I there is not way to fix it I'll try to return it to the store get something else, although I really start liking pro tools...

Does the iMac G5 have any Energy Saver Preferences? If it does, make sure CPU performance is set to HIGHEST.

Yes, I've done that already.
Does it anything anything to do with internal clock?

Is your iMac Digi approved? I do not have any experience with 7.3 but I think I may have read a thread that said you have to REMOVE unqualified plugs. Disabling the plugs may not be enough. Check into that.

If you have no plugins loaded and PT is just sitting there, the CPU level should hover around 0%. There's something wrong. It's not that the iMac is that underpowered.

Even if you're running 5 tracks with no plugins, it shouldn't go more than 5-10%.

I did a lot better than that on my old G4/400Mhz.

I went to a Mac store and checked a few of their iMac Duo demos.
When I started the Garage Band on them CPU usage was like around 15% without any tracks.
When I loaded one of the video clips ( a very small file) into the Garageband and played it,
the CPU usage was 80%!!!!
The sales guy at the store was also surprised and didn't know what to say.
So I think it is a Mac problem.

On the other hand a friend of mine has mBox 1 on 700MHZ G4 and rarely runs into problems.

I also went to the music store and their advice was
to allocate a part of my HD to Pro TOols since I don't have an external HD
Also I stored the sessions on the desktop.....
YOu think it's a good idea to erase the hard drive and reinstall everything?
Thanks.
