What Sound Module to buy ?
Hi again,
I want to buy a sound module but i don't know wich, after watching some magazines i've seen that Roland and Korg seem to be best. After that i should buy a Midi Controler ?? Or should I buy a keybord with the sound module incorporated. Please help, because i don't want to buy the same thing twice. Thanks a lot.

Re: What Sound Module to buy ?
Getting a sound module all depends on how much you're looking to spend. For starters, I would suggest getting a keyboard(controller) with onboard sounds. I would recommend getting any of the Alesis QS synths (QS6.1 or QS7.1) they're pretty affordable plus they have some very nice clean sounds. Once you have a controller then you can expand you library by adding a couple of sound modules. Roland & Korg are pretty much the industry standards but Emu(Proteus 2000) and some other manufacturers have some pretty decent modules. A Roland JV series module (JV1010/JV1080/JV2080) should problably be your next buy. The JV1010 is one of Roland's lower end module. I personally haven't used the JV1010 but it has a lot of sounds @ an affordable price. Also, the JV series modules are expandable(I'm not sure if the 1010 is expandable). Expandability is very important because it's a cheaper way of staying current/getting new sounds. I suggest you buy a keyboard with onboard sounds first then expand on that with sound modules; afterall you'll need a keyboard/controller to drive the sound modules. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions don't be shy.
Affordable keyboard controllers: -Alesis QS6.1/QS7.1 -Roland XP-10 -Roland A-70 Any used keyboard can also do the job. -Yamaha DX7 RnR |

Re: What Sound Module to buy ?
If anyone has advice on inexpensive electronic drums, please advise.
I'm not a drummer, but I'm done with programming drum machines. |

Re: What Sound Module to buy ?
Gulliver:
Search the DUC. There's a great current thread about inexpensive drum machines. (I like the Alesis DM Pro module best, but it lists for like $1600). You might have a better response if you pose this in a separate topic. OgnKog: Ditto R'nP's advice on the Alesis KB's. Great action, great all-around sounds, great pianos and B3's, great FX, nice synths and techno sounds. My next purchase after a QS6 was a Korg Trinity TR-Rack, which is a great compliment to the QS soundset. I nearly got a JV-2080 instead, (but now all those patches plus the "sessions" exp board are available in a $500 unit from Roland that is less versatile and harder to integrate into a system, so there are choices here; and Roland manuals suck out loud). The best keyboard I've ever heard is the new Korg Triton. I have serious gear lust for the rack version of that, but most of those patches are on my Trinity and some reviews of the Triton say it doesn't sound as good as the Trinity in some respects. If you're more dance oriented check out the Emu stuff. (my 2c's) |

Re: What Sound Module to buy ?
I bought a Korg NS5R off of e-bay for $300 and for the price it kicks. I dont care for the bass or piano sounds to much but its very editable. It works with EGedit which runs about $40 and makes creating/editing sounds and effects very easy. mmmm...easy. : )

Re: What Sound Module to buy ?
If you're not a good keyboard player. Get the Roland E500. It's got good sounds (and alot of them), 16 track sequencer, drums and it even shows you what chord you are playing.
Now that's a sound module. Nick |

Re: What Sound Module to buy ?
I picked up an older Proteus for about $150. I did an entire midi generated album off of that and a drum machine.
