Timing (Tuplet) question for RAIL
Rail, is there any way you can explain to me how to use the tuplet function to get triplett notes? I am extremely confused on the two boxes (in time or something like that) next to the tuplet checkbox where you have to fill in the numbers. I'm trying to get 16th note triplets on a 6/8 timing tune. Working on a gospel tune with a funky bassline. All of that "divide 480 ticks by *whatever" is throwing me COMPLETELY OFF. Is there some kind of easier way to figure this out?
I really wish they would've just implemented a triplet checkbox or something like that. PT Quantizing Sucks! P.S. Groove quantize doesn't help either. Cause there's nothing for 6/8 timing or even 3/4 timing. Don't get me wrong the program is great. But that quantizing situation is IMO is just FOOLISHNESS.
Be sure your session is in 6/8.This should be very easy. Just set the resolution to 16th notes, and then check the triplet box. Kaboom. Easy. Dubaifox (Rail Wannabee)

Dubaifox (Rail Wannabee)
Yep. Sounds easy. But didn't work. I tried that first. Then I started playing with the numbers. Still no luck. Not even when I tried 32nd note triplets. I kept getting this stiff result. I set my nudge grid for 16th note triplets and compared the notes to the lines on the grid. Everything was off. And actually when I played it it was closer to the grid manually than after quantization!

The former works. You might have randomize on. If it is the later, than triplet quantizing wont work. Never tried that in Pro Tools, but it must be possible, I would think.

Re: Timing (Tuplet) question for RAIL
Are you trying to do 16th triplets in 6/8 (which would mean three notes for every 8th note) or Duplets in 6/8 (which would mean 2 notes for every three 8th notes in 6/8 time)
No. I'm trying to do 3notes for every quarter note {e.g. 1)123; 2)456; 3)789; 4)10 11 12; 5)13 14 15; 6)16 17 18} I tried 8th not triplets. no good. I tried 16th note triplets; No good. I tried 32nd note triplets; No good. If you can mentally hear this it would sound something like; BA-KA-DA, BA-KA-DA, BA-KA-DA, BA-KA-DA, BA-KA-DA, BA-KA-DA.

Re: Timing (Tuplet) question for RAIL
Technically you are playing in 12/8 time. Can you set Pro Tools to that or is it too late to change your session template.
Have you tried changing the grid to quarter note triplets?

Re: Timing (Tuplet) question for RAIL
6/8 time is 6 beats per measure, and an 1/8th note equals one beat (or a whole note consists of 6 1/8th notes).

Re: Timing (Tuplet) question for RAIL
Oh, I didn't look closely enough at your description. Maybe 9/8. Though impossible really to tell unless you hear it.
It looks to me like you are in 3/4, but you are playing a jazz, swing feel, which is triplets. Three notes per beat. Is it Swing/Jazz Have you tried any of the swing groove templates (groove quantize) I'll bet Rail will get here and tell you what you need in ten words or less, as opposed to my nearly ten posts. I have a ways to go before I am a Rail.
