Creating Loops in Pro Tools???
When I'm making a loop in Pro Tools to set it up for Grid Mode, I highlight the area to loop and then adjust the start and end points until it's tight. The problem I'm having is when I adjust the end point, instead of continuing to play for where it is in the loop; it jumps back to the beginning. It's a pain in the ass when you got your loop and you just want to adjust the end point.
With Ableton or Logic, you can get the beginning of your loop tight and then just adjust the end point in real time while the loop is playing. I'm sure there is a way do this in Pro Tools. Does anyone know how to do this or what I'm missing??? P.S. Grid Mode with Time Compression is amazing!!! Thanks! |

Re: Creating Loops in Pro Tools???
Pro Tools is really the wrong tool for the job in this case. There isn't really an elegant way to define loops.
You'll be much happier using a two-track sample editor to create loops. I prefer Peak but there are others out there that are good too.

Re: Creating Loops in Pro Tools???
What about using grid mode and adjusting the tempo until your selected grid matches the loop?
i.e., set the tempo to be close to your loop's tempo via tap tempo. Then select however many measures the loop should occupy. Then manually adjust the tempo up or down until your selected number of measures maps to your loop. Then cut-n-paste away. You can then use time compression to adjust the tempo of the loop. (I haven't done this, but this is what I would try if I did; the PT selection mechanism is too manual, mousy and easy to screw up)

Re: Creating Loops in Pro Tools???
That was an interesting video. Some good tricks.
It's not bad when you're doing a short loop as demostrated in the video, that I can do. In Slip Mode you just adjust the start and end points, then play it back and fine tune from there. My question is when you are trying to do, say an 4 bar loop. Is there any way to adjust the end point while the loop is playing back without having it jump back to the begining when you adjust the end point? Maybe not??? |

Re: Creating Loops in Pro Tools???
Did you check
Edit Insertion Follows Scrub/Shuttle In Operations in Preferences? You can hold down shift and adjust the playback markers in the ruler- to adjust the selection too.

Re: Creating Loops in Pro Tools???
not sure, I'll have to check. hopefully that will work. pro tools is so powerful, i'd be shocked if it can't do something as simple as this.
thanks! |
