Locked out of Pro Tools if the previous interface isn't plugged in?
Hey,
I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious here. I'm running PT9 on my macbook and using it successfully with or without an external interface, that part is fine. BUT I've come across a situation where I simply forgot to plug in my interface when during the previous session I had been using it. This meant PT just wouldn't start - no way of using built in audio as a backup or picking a different interface. The application just quits after displaying a message saying it couldn't intialise the interface. Does this in effect mean that if I didn't have my interface with me, or if it was broken, that I would be locked out of PT? Seems odd. But if I can't open the application I don't have access to the panel where I can change what interface to use... Would love to know what the deal is before I end up in this situation. Cheers |

Try holding down the "n" key during Pro Tools launch:

When you open a session it'll display a dialog telling you the hardware isn't available and give you the option to power it up or plug it in and continue.. If you press the Cancel button it'll open the Playback dialog where you can select a different hardware device.

Cheers - got this to work.
I'm kind of amazed how counterintuitive this is though. Seems you have to press the N key BEFORE the warning appears - surely this should be an option in the dialog displaying the warning rather than an arbitrary key command... Simon |
