Default focusrite d2/d3 plugins vs. red 2/3 hardware

is there an obvious difference between the sound quality of the focusrite d2/d3 plugins vs. their actual hardware counterparts? granted their different price points are obvious, but how close do the plugins come to the hardware?

peace.
