Previously it was stated that the file could have been 44.1. That was incorrect. If the file was 48K but the Pro Tools session was 44.1, then the file would get longer and pitch down as you described without sample rate conversion. Do you clock your interface externally? Errors with sample rates usually occur when your external clock and session rate are mismatched.
