Default PTLE 6.01cs1: patch names not showing up

Anybody have any ideas why my patchnames aren't showing up on my MIDI tracks?

No matter which patchlist file I load from the DIGI supplied files, no patch names show up-- just the default numbers. I guess that's progress-- before 6.01 I would just crash when loading patch names

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
c

hi CWHITE771, I HAVE THE EXACT SAME SYSTEM AS YOU AND HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, FIRST OF ALL YOU NEED TO GO TO MIDI DEVICE SETUP AND CHOOSE THE INSTRUMENT YOU HAVE AND MAKE SURE YOUR MIDI CHANNELS YOU WANT THE INSTRUMENT TO RECIEVE ON IS SELECTED AND THE CHANNELS THAT YOU WANT PROTOOLS TO RECIEVE ARE ALSO SET, THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS TO CHOSE THERE, SELECT THEM IF YOU WANT THOSE FUNCTIONS.THEN GO BACK TO NORMAL MIXER WINDOW AND CHOOSE THAT INSTRUMENT IN PROGRAM CHANGE WINDOW IN A PARTICULAR TRACK AND YOU SHOULD SEE YOUR PATCH NAMES OF YOUR INSTRUMENT.
IF YOU ARE FORTUNATE YOUR INSTRUMENT PATCH NAMES ARE SUPRTED BY OSX AND ARE AVAILABLE TO USE IN PROTOOLS I HAVE NOT HAD ANY LUCK, ALL MY INSTRUMENTS THE PATCH NAMES HAVE NOT BEEN SUPORTED BY PROTOOLS YET, BUT I HAVE SUCESSFULLY LOADED SIMILAR INSTRUMENTS PATCH LISTS. VERSION 6 PROTOOLS HAD PROBLEMS WITH PATCH NAME FACILITY THEY HAVE FIXED IT IN V6.0.1 BUT I STILL THINK THEY NEED TO WORK ON THE MIDI SIDE OF THINGS BECAUSE I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH 6.0.1, I'L BE PATIENT AND WAIT FOR THE FIXES HOPEFULLY I,L HAVE A FULLY WORKING VERSION WITH MINIMAL BUGS BEFORE I LOOSE INTEREST IN MUSIC OR DIE OF OLD AGE
GOOD LUCK DAMIR

Thanks for the reply damir. I haven't had the time to mess around with it yet but, I'll see what I come up with when I can. I will be a fine day when the bugs are gone-- support for more MIDI devices would be nice, too.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">If you are looking for more patch names go here...

http://digicake.com/midnam/

Then download MOTU.sit and you will find many extra patch names.

I was trying to get all of my friends that use DP to upgrade to 4 hoping that MOTU had included a .midnam file for my YAMAHA EX5. I downloaded the MOTU file, and no such luck.

I created my own .midnam file for the EX but I can't tell if it's working or not (hence this thread) because PT6.01cs1 doesn't seem to load any names from any .midnam file (for me at least).

OK, after messing around with the Audio MIDI Setup a bit I was finally able to load midnam files for some other synths into PT6.01cs1. However, there still seems to be an issue with the midnam file that I created for my EX5 since PT "unexpectedly quits" everytime I try to load it (at which point I have to go and reconfigure my Audio MIDI Setup which gets corrupted because of the error).

I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with my midnam file-- I've looked at a number of others and tried many different things and still no luck.

Make sure you don't have special characters >, < or & in your file. If you want them in your file, check some of the existing patchname files to see how they are added to patch names.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Made sure there weren't any special characters. My latest version of the file doesn't seem to crash PT anymore but, still no patchnames on my MIDI tracks.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hi rseely,

Open PT. (you may have done this already) Go to Setups (top menu) --> Edit MIDI Studio Setup...

Add a new device-- in your case the K2VX (looks like it's supported-- the files are there). Connect it with the virtual cables to your interface in the MIDI setup window.

Next, open or create a session in PT. Add a MIDI track. In your MIDI track (in your Edit window), you'll see a box that says "none". Click that and it'll open a window. Then click the "Change..." button. Load the midnam file that corresponds with your synth. It should be located at:
/YourDrive/Library/Audio/MIDI Patch Names/Digidesign/Kurzweil/K2000VX

If you're lucky, the patch names should show up replacing the numbers. If not, you have the same problem I do-- ie. it doesn't work.
