Was the Windows system a desktop or laptop?

Hey everyone

I connected the soundcard and monitors to a windows laptop and there was no hum.
So it has to be something on the mac that is causing this.

Can anyone suggest another remedy?

Hey everyone

I plugged the soundcard (fast track duo) and speakers (rokit 5 powered) into my windows laptop and there was so no hum at all. Everything was plugged into the same power outlet as before with my IMAC.

So I am pretty sure it is not a power issue.

As soon as it the soundcard and speakers is plugged into my MAC, I get that hum again. The hum starts whenever I launch protools or quicktime or any program thats going to play sound.

Default Speaker hum when ProTools launches

That’s why I asked if it was a laptop. More than likely, the Windows laptop was running on battery power or, if plugged into AC, it only has a 2 prong power connection with no Earth, so you’re not getting a ground loop.

You asked what to do and I answered previously with a couple of suggestions as did others.

The quickest is to just remove the ground pin on your iMac cable or speakers but beware of the risks.
