Default "ASIO hardware could not be initialized"

OK guys,

I have clean installed Windows 7
003 Rack Drivers then ProTools9

I completed all PT optimizations for Windows 7 from Avid.com

I still get this message when PT9 boots up

"The Selected ASIO hardware could not be initialized.."

I have been trouble shooting for a week now and have no idea where to turn next.

There is literally nothing on this machine but PT9 and the drivers or 003r.

go into your device manager and uninstall the 003 drivers in there and reboot. Then go into control panel, uninstall software, uninstall the 003 drivers in there and reboot. Then install the newest 003 drivers again (I'm guessing you're using the one linked to from the pro tools 9 article on avid.com).. and reboot. All of this must be with the 003 connected.

I had to go through this myself. Despite it telling you to do so, the new pro tools sometimes doesn't like you installing the driver first.

Should the 003 be on the whole time or just connected?

It should be actually on. Unfortunately I have only performed this with an mbox 2 pro, however I have seen indications that it works with the 002 and 003 as well around the net. I think on the gearslutz forum?

Give it a try and let me know if it works.

I am assuming you are telling me to uninstall then install the software first, then the 003 drivers. correct?

no, just the drivers. Find your 003 in the device manager, go to properties and uninstall driver, then restart. then go to control panel and find the entry for your 003 drivers (just the drivers, not pro tools) and uninstall them, then restart. now install the most recent 003 driver again, then restart (it will probably ask you to restart anyway once you've done that)

hopefully that should fix it.
