Default Routing MIDI from one soundbank to different effects pallettes

Hey, I've got a Proteus 1 that I use for a lot of the basic MIDI sounds in my studio, and I'm running into an issue: sometimes I want an effect on the drums from the Proteus that I don't want on, say, the violin.

Has anyone found a way to get different effects on audio triggered by MIDI in the same outboard box? Note that there are no sends on PT MIDI channels. The only thing I've thought of is to record the MIDI material as audio waveforms, then effect each separately, but that's kind a pain. . . . (snivel, snivel, right?) thoughts, anyone?
