Default RAID or MAC OS Extended when working with final cut and pro-tools??

Here are my specs:

MAC OS 10.5.3, Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5, 4 GB DDR SDRAM,
Pro-tools 7.4.2,
Final cut 5.1.4

Here is my problem:

My Video/Audio drive has been formated as a RAID drive. When trying to set the drive in workspace to become a record drive (by selecting the "r" next to the drive in workspace) the "Computer says NO!"

Is this my solution:

Do I need to reformat the drives as a MAC OS extended volume?
If I do this will it effect the efficiency of Final cut?

Any suggestions would be great

Many thanks

A:)

What kind of video are you editing?
If it is SD video you don't need to RAID your drives, but if you are working with HD video it's recomended to use RAID (RAID 0 or 5 depending on how many drives you have).
I'm using the same program versions as you and I have no problems with SD video.
Make sure to backup your video before reformating your drives.

I Though that Pro-tools can only record to a MAC OS extended drive and not to a RAID formated drive.

Is this correct or incorrect?

Think I have figured it out.

Reformat the drives as MAC OS extended.

RAID is no use for Pro-tools!

PT doesn't officially support RAID so the RAID has to be invisible to the OS and PT. That mean hardware RAID. I would only use RAID 1 since RAID 0 is zero protection, and RAID 5 is good for reading data not writing like PT is doing.
