Default In the future--auto-freeze everything

Blink out of it to adjust individual tracks, otherwise make it a background process, transparent. The computers must be fast enough by now--you'd think it would make the whole process less error-prone if the DAW doesn't have to real-time process all of your audio all of the time.

Curious if anybody else thinks this is a good idea

video editors have this. the preview clips of video can be always rendering in the background with the layers of effects etc.... so that whenever you play the timeline they play back briskly. video is much more taxing on the CPU than audio so that is probably why they have it already.
