Default Levels Peak on Master Fader

The levels on my master fader out put peak but none of the other levels on the tracks are peaking. I tried using a limiter, then a compressor, and lowered the value...but the effects I had to put on the overall track to keep it from peaking were too much and took away from the sound of the track. When I lowered the volume it was pretty low. What is the best way to approach this problem?

It's called "mixing".

haha...I was hopin' for some techniques...I'm fairly new to doing my own post-pro but I'm slowly learning step by step. It just confused me that the master fader was peaking when nothing else on the entire track was...I guess it's a fundamental concept that I ain't clued into yet...

All the audio tracks combined is overloading the master fader - i.e. too much signal. Try turning everything down a few notches. I mean, you can always turn the master fader up as well. Or use compression/limiting later.

Good luck with that question man i've been trying to get the same answers too, they want you to record at a high level but in the end you will have to turn them all down cuz of the peaking on the master fader yeah you can use a compressor but that only bring back some of the volume,i've tried some of the other plug ins it also makes it better but still the volume issue! Some say just to take it to a professonal, some say to just wait it out and learn it witch eventually we will but I know there are some of them out there that have some techniques that they can share on how they get there nice mixes.I know they will say every song is different BUT how do they go about aproaching it step by step!Oh and don't expect possitive and helpful answers from them all the time!!

All the techniques you need are right in this book: The Mixing Engineer's Handbook

There are many others, but you really need to study and learn what you are doing. It's not magically going to happen from one post on an internet forum.
