Default raid to increase hd performance? wizzes....!

has anyone ever used or is currently using a raid controller? i have been using one but on my playback i could hear clipping sounds that were inaudible during recording on my headphones. terrifying. i already suspected my apogee ad8000's malfunction.
digi guys say that raid is recommended only for video but it is sort of illogical for a digital data is a digital data. period. a computer is not able to tell the difference between video and audio files.
what is your word on it?

i'm trying to increace the performance of my hd so i can do some recording on 10 tracks(using adat)in 128 latency mode.
i'm getting this "runnig out of cpu power" and "free up some plugins" message all the time.

any suggestions on raid type(company) if any would be any helpful.

regards

greg

Video can need dozens of Mb/s of bandwidth to record to the hard drive, that's why RAID is needed.

To run 32 tracks of audio at 24bit, 48Khz you only need around 4.4Mb/s. I believe RAID could increase the amount of PCI load and cause errors in Protools.

Greg,
Sorry to say but Digi is right on this one. Doesn't make sense to me neither. Better off with just plain old ATA100 setups or Firewire/USB2.0 drives with the Oxford 911 chipset.
