Default mbox 3 & latency-direct monitoring and punching in?

Hi All,

I'm looking at getting an mbox 3 to use with PT9, Logic 9 and DP7.

As far as the latency - direct monitoring issue, it seems that most talk about muting the track you are onto get rid of the latent audio and then use direct monitoring to have zero latency during recording.

Q: if so - then how would you be able to live punch in on the same track AND hear what you played before also? Like: play from bar one and listen - then live punch in on bar 5...?
