Default Folder Spill with Nested Folders

I'm trying to understand how Folder Spill works with nested folders on the Artist Mix. I'm not sure if it's the same on S1/S3, as they have the Multi-Master code.

I spill a parent folder by double pressing its Sel button on the surface, then spill a child folder by pressing its Sel button (spilled folder track is assigned to the right-most fader on the surface). To unspill, I double press the Sel button on the child folder and the surface always unspills out of both child and parent folders back up to the root.

Is there any way to spill and unspill up and down the tree on the Artist Mix?
