Well, they seem to have the same old customer service, though. I gave up on Waves when they went to WUP, still have the Gold Native 3.x but haven't used it in several years since I've changed computers. When I got their email, I thought I would inquire about cost to get my 3.x bundle up to current version and change to an ilok authorization. Sent them an email yesterday morning, still haven't had a reply. If it would cost $200 or less to have a working Gold Native package again for use in PT, and another $100 or something per year for WUP if I wanted to update after a year, that might be worth it.

But not if I can't even get an answer to a sales question (let alone a tech support question).
I would respectfully ask you to please exercise some patience while waiting for a response, as yours is amongst several thousands of similar questions being received and answered by CS (who I am not affiliated with, I only test for Waves). Waves only released this news yesterday, and are currently being inundated with people looking for information, even when it is posted quite clearly on their website (http://www.wavesupport.net/content.aspx?id=352). The answer to your upgrade question is $200, with WUP at $104/year thereafter. If you decide to let it lapse, the most you will pay is another $200 to get current again.

As for the original post, you have gotten what you are asking for. You don't have to WUP right now, and the most it will cost you is $200 per bundle when you decide to. If you keep your WUP current on the smaller bundles, it will cost you less, but even if you let your WUP lapse, the cap is set at $200 per bundle for renewal. Obviously, the larger the bundle, the less per plug it will cost to keep current, and any upgrades to a bigger bundle include the first year of WUP.

This part could be a lot clearer: "If your Waves Update Plan is already up-to-date, Waves will extend your benefits accordingly". Check the other thread here to see what I mean. That statement along with the information on the "Buy WUP' page have confused a number of people.

Well, the $104 figure does appear at the bottom of that page (thanks for the URL). I simply wasn't sure, being two major revisions behind, whether these fees pay the full boat to move from 3.x to the current version; apparently the answer to that is yes. However, I will still need my other questions answered before I could go ahead. One thing maybe you could answer, since I'm not that familiar with how the whole WUP thing works--if I decide to update tomorrow, do I pay $200 tomorrow, then $104 starting a year from tomorrow, or is the $104 on top of the $200 now?

I am not Waves customer service and am no WUP expert either so I could be wrong, but my understanding is that you would pay the $200/bundle to get up to date, then the annual fee starting the following year. I do understand that any policy change is going to raise questions (justifiably), but hope that people will cut Waves some slack during what is a very busy time for support questions like these.

Thanks, that's the way I interpreted it but wanted to get a sanity check. I realize you don't work for them.

I am not one of the people who has ranted and raved about WUP; it was (is) Waves' right to implement a policy, and it was (is) the right of its customers to choose whether it was a sufficient value for them. For me, at the former prices, it wasn't, so I simply chose not to do any more business with them. Under the new policy, the value for me is there, so they will regain a customer. Presumably people like me are the reason they have changed their policy. As Michael Corleone said, "it's not personal, it's just business."

Guys,
Save even more money by getting your WUP through your Waves dealer! I saved quite a bit vs going directly to Waves!!!!
Check it out.
Exactly.

Worth repeating.

I thought the only way to WUP through a dealer was to buy an upgraded bundle.

Do dealers sell just WUP without having to buy more plugs?

Although it is cheaper, it's still plain wrong! McDSP, Sony, Massenberg, WaveArts (and I can't remember my other plugins), don't charge me to "allow" me to be able to use the plugins. I paid for them, in the first place, so that I could use them, period, and there is no "time" limit either! What nonsense can justify this procedure. If Digi rewites code, which forces plugin manufacturers to rewrite some of their code, then I understand, that being said, other companies have been far more reasonable...

Sorry, but my Platinum bundle (which cost me a truck load in the first place) has been collecting dust for the past three years on a lonely iLok, and most probably will be for a long time.

Too bad, cause some of those plugins were fabulous...

It's OK, now I can live without them, and trust me, I'm not the only one who has switched,

Ray
