Default HDX Audio drop outs on all HW Inserts

Hi:

I'm getting audio dropouts on all my hardware inserts every few seconds. Two inserts are on my OMNI and two on the 8x8x8 and it's the same on all of them.

Anyone else seeing this?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that; let's see if we can resolve this.

Can you describe the dropouts in more detail? (try sending a signal generator test tone through as to pick up the subtleties)

Could you describe how your inserts are connected and how things are routed?

What's your clocking setup - internal or external sync?

Finally, would you mind sending in your session (without any audio) so we can try to reproduce the issue? Send to ProTools_Transfer at avid dot com.

We'll try to track this down quickly.

Opened new session with test tone. Sounds like something clicks off and then back on. Lasts about about a half second each time. Happens when in play and not in play.

Will upload the PTX file called insert drop out in a minute.

Inserts are connected in this case to the same I/O path, on the OMNI it's the SPDIF I/O to a HEDD 192 and the 8x8 it's analog i/o 3-4 to a stereo pair of 1073's

Clocking is internal at 44.1.

Thanks

Carl

Which is the clock master? Do you have the loop sync cables connected correctly?

Not sure if I have it correct. Turns out if I disconnect the 8x8x8 everything is normal. Although I noticed on the inserts it was happening on all inputs.

Back to the manual. I just hooked up the the 8x8x8 to the second port on the card. Nothing else.

Thanks for the input.

You should have received two short BNC cables with the interfaces (one with each if I remember correctly). Connect the loop sync out from the Omni to the loop sync in of the HD I/O, and vice versa. You should be good to go from there.

(You can change the loop sync master from session setup.)

OK, let us know if the sync cabling helps.

FWIW it does indeed sound like a sample clock issue, so you'll want to check those first. If those look right, try it with only one interface with loop sync disconnected and see if it's still happening.

In the previous message he notes that it works with one interface.

Solved. Thanks Luke. had to buy another cable, must of lost one.

Works like a charm and super cool to have all my outboard patched in.
