Default Dual Processor G4\'s

Apple is suppose to have dual processor G4's shipping in March (So I saw at appleinsider) and I'm wondering what that would do for the 001 and PT/LE? I have ordered the 001 and was going to order the 500 mhz G4 when they get released again but I'm not sure if I should wait a couple more months and see what dual's would do for my plug-in count. Anybody know if this would be worth the extra money for a dual G4?

Well it all depends on how _fast_ digi implements multiprocessing support. They _will_, as long as the company survives (I'm thinking it definitely will, unless more of it is bought by Microsoft and Mac development is forced to halt). Once they support the multiprocessing API (and it would be really naive if they designed their whole host-based audio engine without giving serious architectural thought to MP), it will support any configuration of multiple processors. So 2x500 G4s w/Altivec, and 4x800 G4's w/AltiVec, of 8x1Ghz G5's will all work, I would hope. Otherwise someone screwed up catastrophically.

Take home message? Buy the best machine that serves your needs today. The machines will always be better & cheaper tomorrow. Once you actually outgrow your current configuration, buy the best new machine you can afford.

I would imagine Digi will have MP support by September, but they could surprise me by shipping it in the spring. Of course, Apple would surprise me shipping MP Macs w/o MacOS X in the spring. Digi won't probably support MacOS X for another year and a half or more.
