New RME Babyface Pro for Windows+Mac
Another short (not really Iīm afraid ;-)) heads up.
RME have released their brand new RME Babyface Pro audio interface. http://babyface.rme-audio.de As far as one can see from reviews and videos this is going to be the most interesting, professional, studio grade yet mobile audio interface below 1k! RME is known to provide the most stable, best drivers for Windows systems on the audio market and they now deliver with the new Class Compliant Babyface Pro a really cool device for Mac too. There cannot be found anything comparable in this price range as for audio- and overall quality, versatility while still being super compact and perfect for mobile applications (the Apogee Duet is similar as for audio quality and compact size but doesnīt offer half of the connections and features). Because the Babyface Pro even offers 8 ADAT I/Os (usable as 2 SPDIF I/Os as well) it additionally can be used at home/the studio with an additional external preamp for example to expand itīs available inputs/micpres up to 12 inputs which are useable simultaneously. Combined with a Focusrite Octopre for example one can get 2 high quality systems for $1250.-. 1 mobile system with 2 high quality micpres+2 TRS Line inputs, 1 desktop with 10 micpres+2 TRS Line inputs expanded by the Octopre connected via ADAT. Just as an affordable example. Itīs built super slick without the need of any Breakout cable, itīs all built in the unit itself. It even offers 2 separate headphone outputs and they obviously have rebuilt their Totalmix Control software as well in a positive way, it looks much more clear and more easy to use now. This seriously can become one of the coolest, most interesting audio interfaces below 1k and even more for really compact, professional mobile set ups in general. Itīs highly recommended for every Windows audio recording system, now as being Class Compliant, a great option for Mac users too (even can be used with iOS/iPad). People already have bought some units according to Gearslutz e.g., check it out there. I probably would buy it myself if I had not spent all my money on another sweet interface a few months ago. Cheers! |

Re: New RME Babyface Pro for Windows+Mac
I'd upgrade my Babyface to the Pro version if I needed 2 more analog ins and an extra headphone output. But I like the form factor of the original. It's a shame RME didn't include the same Dynamics and auto-level DSP that their larger interfaces have.
