In a nutshell :

Really damned good!

In fact, among the best out there.

L2007 has been gaining traction over the past 5 years or so, as the go to mastering limiter for quite a few folk (increasingly in Post, surprisingly, where it's slowly troubling the L1's dominance).

I really like it for music, especially in the "vibrant" mode.

De:Esser really is one of the best around, and again, is becoming the secret weapon in Post.

Tape Head is also really great at what it does (terrific on Bass D.I.'s for example, or in parallel on the drum buss).

It shouldn't be confused with something like the console / tape machine / tape simulations from the likes of Slate or McDSP, where for example, I might want to create an "analogue" environment by putting the same pre-amp model on every track (adjusted to suit the tracks unique input source), and the same tape machine & tape formulation on every audio track, and perhaps the mix buss.

It's more along the lines of Nomad Factory's Magnetic plug-in, which imparts a particular flavour on the audio, albeit in a more minimal way.

I only use it on occasion, but it's sometimes the only thing that will get the job done just right.

I can't really comment on the use of the other plug-ins, as whilst I liked them when I demo'd them, they weren't quite what I was looking for at the time, and so I don't own yet them (emphasis on the yet).

WOW Thank you guys soo much Way more info and great thoughts than I would have expected. As usual here on the forum = Very nice guys with heaps of great advice and huge knowledge on just about everything I really appreciate your input here and I do feel a bit stupid not listening to people regarding Massey so now I repent and will get the L2007 Tape Head TD5 and De-Esser to start with, really good priced and now when we demo'd them I agree with all you guys, they are super cool and sounds different from most of the plugins we own and makes for a great addition.

Again Big Thank You Friends for helping and posting thoughts and information on your experience with Massey Plugins. Off to the Massey website and start buying so we don't have to start over with preset settings every start up Somewhat a pain but super nice when people want to demo plugins without having the time constraint of other developers so Well Done Steven and Company

Sincerely
Christopher

I use the ct5, L2007, desser, and tape head all the time. I'm going to add the eq when I upgrade to AAX.

Massey rules!!!

CT4/5 on every drum track.

Tapehead is magic.

L007 on every mix.

The EQ is great but I wish he'd make a full one.

The THC distortion nails the Big Muff.

It's not meant to be a full eq, it's meant to be quick-and-dirty eq which it is. I must confess I really didn't care about it before, but now that it got trim slider in AAX version I think I'm going to use it more.

Tell me about it! Feels really close to this when you crank it up on a DI guitar track

I'm a big fan of the Massey De:Esser. I use it on everything from vocals to voice over.
