Default FX Library recommendations

We've been investigating investing into an FX library. I've done some reading and found Sound-Ideas as well as Digital Juice, SoundDog, etc.

I have seen one recommendation for Sound-Ideas...anyone use anything else(or this) and give some advice on this?

Thanks,

Bodie

Default Re: FX Library recommendations

I own a lot of the libraries out there, and I have to say the sounds I use the most seem to come from the Sound Ideas Libraries. They have the best quality, and most useful range of sound effects. Hollywood Edge is good quality as well. The Digital Juice stuff seems good quality, and for the price you get a lot of sound effects, but how useful it is, I’m not sure yet. I rarely use any of their sounds. So if you’re just staring out, I’d say a good place to start is with the Sound Ideas General 6000 series. I know, everybody has it, and it’s been used too much, but it just works. You’ll find that the more effects you acquire, the more you’ll need (and the harder it is to find the right sound). To really set yourself apart, you should really start recording your own sound effects, because you’ll always need a sound that you just can’t find, or mimic well with the library sounds. Good luck.

Great input Chris, I'm going to go forward with Sound-Ideas. There's the NAB show special for the General-combo (better than advertised price) so adding the 6 Extensions to the actual General will get us up and running I'm sure.

What would you recommend starting out for a mobile/handheld digital recording solution? I know there's plenty of devices out there, but in the real world, what do people tend to use for it's ease of use, mobility and quality?

thanks for your time,

Bodie
