Default Logic X Has Dropped

Sitting pretty in the App Store along w/ MainStage 3. So the Fruit Company was just waiting on Avid to drop PT11 I guess.

Some interesting adds, dark panes a-la FC X's look, Drummer (EZ/SD kind of instrument) etc -- 64-bit AUs only, 32-bit bridge is gone as was expected.

It's the year of the Big DAWs. Reaper 5 must be around the corner.

Just saw this. No overly excited yet, but haven't really looked very closely at it to see what's changed. Still absorbing the PT11 news, and have to wait for the excitement from that to wind down first.

I want to offer a toast to all Logic users who have suffered persecution and much ridicule over the past few years for your blind loyalty to your brand that seemed to always let you down. Through much Apple Kool-Aid drinking and your steadfastness to only see life through your Apple Colored Glasses. You have made it. You have reached the Summit. Your day is here. Everyone please give your Logic friends a HAND and be happy for them. Their long delusional ride is over. So when you here the new LOGIC X catch phrase "I Told You So" from your buddies? Respond in kindness and with a smile "You Sure Did"... "You Sure Did"... Men and Woman of LOGIC We Salute You!

Yeah, I think I'm going to jump onto that bandwagon, because at least all of their 3rd party vendors have made the leap to 64 bit AU plugins on time!

Oh, wait...

Yeah even though there has been a 4-year period for 64 bit AU to ramp up, it kind of didn't happen with much to show. Up until the last year or two it's been slim pickings -- AAX64 does seem to have an opportunity to ramp up in months instead of years, by comparison.

Honestly, I have to say I'm pretty impressed with how many plugins and how fast they've been landing as AAX 64bit. When iZotope's Alloy2, and WaveRider land, I'm personally pretty much at parity with my PT10 rig.

Logic was really the first mac DAW to go 64 bit. And it took forever for anything to actually be able to be used without the horrid "32-bit audio unit bridge". I think when you compare the two, the transition to 64 bit AAX is already moving much faster than it did with Logic.

After looking over the new features, there are a few interesting things in there like MIDI plugins/scripting and the ability to export musicXML that if they work well are going to be worth the price of the upgrade. Not much else in there is jaw droppingly exciting, but it looks like it's well worth the $199 price. I guess I can finally stop worrying about losing my old XSkey? Doesn't look like there's any kind of upgrade offer for existing users that I can see, everyone new and old now pays the same price.

Don't say that too loud - somebody just might think that's a grand idea

$199 is not bad at all... even comes with its own iPad control surface app for free
