Making a Song with Pro Tools
I'm trying to make a song on pro tools, but I am a little lost.
I have made my instrumental just with basic instruments and no plugins, extras whatsoever. I know that the next step would be making sure the volume of each instrument suits the song well. I've heard there is something called EQ and mixing but I'm not quite sure what to do next. I've looked up tutorials on youtube, but they dont really go over what I should be doing next. Even the ones that say from making a song start to finish. I'm not sure what to do as I'm just new to pro tools and music making in general. I do not have any music friends to ask for assistance or advice. If anyone could point me in the right direction or tell me what I can look into more it would be greatly appreciated. A to do list of things in order would be great like for example: - Instruments - EQ - Reverb - (other plugin recommendations) - mixing - volume i would love to be able to distort vocals and also be able to make my instruments sound cooler with effects im not sure if this list is right, im just guessing because i just have no idea what to look for. I just don't know where to start. any advice much appreciated. |

Re: Making a Song with Pro Tools
Agree with the link posted!
These levels of questioning tells me you are soo new to music recording and production that your best bet is to start reading books about this and taking online courses maybe. And regarding videos on youtube about what you are asking Iid say there are hundreds or thousands of them and many quite good. I doubt anyone here want to start tutoring you the basics of music making /recording as it is not that kind of forum.

Re: Making a Song with Pro Tools
you could also try reading the Pro Tools ref manual, it has some pretty straight forward examples of how the software operates. It's a good read if your running 2018.7 at around 1400+ pages but slowly work your way through it over time as well as the advice above already given. Perhaps even try using one of those iPad based apps they can be pretty simple to use and starts to give you an idea of process and the introduction to things like EQ among many other things
here is a good vid on EQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yohh...ature=youtu.be

Re: Making a Song with Pro Tools
I don't know if it's been updated but the PT101 courseware textbook is another good reference for total newbies. Another good learning resource is Groove 3.

Re: Making a Song with Pro Tools
It helps to have a song in mind. That is most important.

Re: Making a Song with Pro Tools
You might also put an ad in your local craigslist looking for some one-on-one Pro Tools tutoring Its a long road ahead, but the journey should be fun and educational
