Pro Tools Hardware is either not installed or in use by another program

I had Pro Tools 9 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits with Digidesign 002 rack, working without problems until the other day, while PT9 was opening, I received the message "Pro Tools Harware is either not installed or in use by another program". I did nothing to the computer and it was working with no problems the previous night and in the morning it just happened. The program just doesn´t open.
The 002 works perfectly and sound comes out with the computer sounds and with the music players and also with other Daw's. Nothing seems to be opening on start up and using the hardware and I tried everything I could and the problem remains.

Does anyone out there can help me. I'm in the midlle of a work and can't get it to work.

Check your settings in Control Panel-Sound. You probably have your default sound device set to give applications exclusive control.

i though pt 10 could use anything...why does pt care whats connected!!

The error is saying that the interface is being used by another application which in this case could be Windows. You're better off not even trying to use the 002 for Windows sounds IMHO, unless you connect the pc soundcard to the Aux input.

Yeah, it's running well using the Pro 56 and Pro 40 linked and the Octopre connected via ADAT gives me 24 inputs to Pro Tools. I'm in the process of buying a Tascam 4800 and will probably just keep the 56 with it. Only thing I hate about the Focusrite interfaces is that you have to exit Pro Tools to change the buffer - on pc at least, not on my Mac, plus on the Mac I can get a 32 buffer size!

Awesome, I am in the midst of upgrading my hardrives to ones with bigger cache's and tranfer speeds....so hopefully i will be able to run lower buffer settings after i get it ready to go...
