Re: Eleven Rack Compatibility with MacOS Catalina
The editor and driver were working just fine on Catalina until yesterday when I got that "cannot initialize midi engine" error message. So now I'm running it on a Parallels / Windows 7 virtual machine within Catalina.

Re: Eleven Rack Compatibility with MacOS Catalina
So will Avid eventually support Catalina OS?
Any workarounds? All I need is to get my MacBook to recognize my Eleven Rack for audio playback. |

Re: Eleven Rack Compatibility with MacOS Catalina
As I interpret AVID's 11R end-of-life statement they should update the drivers for Catalina. But will they? Who knows.
I love the 11R tones and integration with Pro Tools. It is central to my workflow. So much so I'm contemplating moving to Windows - or less disruptively - downgrading to Mojave. The 11R 64-Bit Windows drivers work fine and should work for quite some time barring some major internal changes to the OS. |

Re: Eleven Rack Compatibility with MacOS Catalina
Just an FYI that the end of life is for replacement parts and service. They may not make an updated driver before that date, and they may update it after that date.
That said, it doesnt look too likely - opinion only.. Joel

Re: Eleven Rack Compatibility with MacOS Catalina
I've been having issues with my 11R mainly with re-amping and recording. It's definitely due to Catalina because it worked fine with Mojave. The 11R Editor works fine, however.
My workaround is to use both Outputs to Amp L & R. One is set to "Amp Input" for the dry guitar/mic signal in 11R's User Settings. That feeds to one input channel of my audio interface. The other output is set to "Rig Output" for the entire rig sound, feeding to the other input channel of my audio interface. Note: Make sure you don't have any 11R effects enabled on the dry signal. Try to keep it as dry as possible. You don't have to disable the Amp/Cab if you set that channel's output to "Amp Input," but you may still have to disable speaker resonance. I've noticed Avid finally made some updates for Pro Tools and other software recently to help with Catalina compatibility, but no such luck for 11R. I also read somewhere else—it may have been this forum but, I don't remember—that the 11R is supposed to be supported until 2024. If nothing else, I'm glad there's a workaround. |

Re: Eleven Rack Compatibility with MacOS Catalina
It's a shame AVID abandoned (prematurely IMO) customers who made significant financial investments on 11R. That said, I understand hardware can't be supported forever...
The recent addition of an AAX version of the entire REASON RACK shows the complexity that can go into the build of plug-ins. 11R still has amazing tones to offer. I'd add my name to a WISH LIST, asking AVID to release an 11R plug

And not sure where you've been - Eleven has been a plugin for longer than 11R has been out... sounds are great I believe the same code was used for both plugin and hardware. I prefer the hardware as I need something for silent practicing without having to fire up all of Pro Tools. https://www.avid.com/plugins/eleven-mk-ii

Re: Eleven Rack Compatibility with MacOS Catalina
Thanks to all for the info.
Questions for Ned, I since I have Eleven Rack with a captive version of PT, can I download the Eleven plugin with the same code and will the plugins work with GarageBand (Mac) or only the captive PT? Thanks. |
