Undelete
I've searched for an answer in the DUC. But I suppose my search terms are so generic.........I get too many results to reasonably read......
A friend dragged a session to the trash and then emptied it. Will anything (I've found the software called Data Rescue that offers a demo) undelete the audio files as long as he stops using the drive so as not to overwrite that area? Seems like I recall reading very old posts about this years ago and Pro Tools audio files were generally considered un-recoverable. Is this true? This isn't something that would be worth sending to a company that restores drives. And it wouldn't hurt to try the demo of Data Rescue on his drive. I was just wondering if anyone had already been through this before I have him try it. |

Re: Undelete
they are recoverable ... but .. you really have to stop using the drive immediately
after you realize you've made the mistake. copy the session folder to another drive . then use your recovery utility to get the files restored. sometimes a relink is necessary. don't do jack on the affected drive until you know you've gotten everything back. not that i've ever had this happen to me mind you ;-) jeff |

Re: Undelete
We tried Data Rescue on his drive. It found some stuff but showed nothing to restore in the trash. Nor did it show the deleted session anywhere.
Any other methods or software to try before he starts drinking heavily..................... |

It's probably not a joking matter losing your data but hopefully it sounded bad and needed to be re-recorded anyways. |
