Default Digi 003 Console to iMac 2018 via Firewire=>Thunderbolt converter

Anybody had any luck bringing a Digi 003 Factory to life on a new iMac?

I've read it's possible. I'm on a new iMac 2018 with OSX 10.13.2 (High Sierra). I've yet to upgrade to PT 12 but I was hoping that the iMac would at least be able to see the Digi 003. I've used a Firewire 800=>Thunderbolt 2 adapter and then run the Thunderbolt 2 into a Thunderbolt 2 adapter. I knew it was a long shot but would be very curious to hear if anybody has had a similar issue and come out alive.

Thanks

I have used my 003R with both my previous TB2 iMac, and my current TB3 iMac Pro and MacBook Pro. FireWire 400 cable, to FireWire 400 to 800 converter, to FireWire 800 to TB2 converter, to TB2 to TB3 converter. Works like a charm. Also the OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock has a FireWire 800 port on it if you want to go that way. I also have that and it works too. Just make sure you install the 003 driver from Avid.

Thanks for the reply Jsvalmont. At the moment I have a Firewire 400 to 800 cable rather than any converter (or is that the same thing...?) - I read somewhere else that someone was having this issue and that an actual Firewire converter from 400 to 800 solved it. I'm also wondering could it be the fact that my OS doesn't support PT 11 (as I've just bought it and have yet to upgrade to PT 12) but I thought that the iMac should be able to recognise the 003 regardless. I've downloaded the latest driver I could find which is 2016 - http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...02-003-Drivers

Do you know of any driver more recent?

I have a Sonnet FireWire 400 to 800 adapter that works great. The 2016 driver still works perfectly well on current setups.

Just an update for the next poor sod who needs a shoulder to cry on. I got it working! I bought Pro Tools 2018 and while installing the drivers/codecs with the Digi 003 connected it miraculously communicated and the "Host" LED came on on the 003. The driver from 2016 is still valid it seems. I'm still testing everything but so far so good.

Just to recap - I'm on a 2018 iMac, OSX 10.13.2, 40Gb Ram, Pro Tools 2018.7

Godspeed.

Glad to hear you got it all working. You seem a little too surprised though, lol. Did you expect that I had led you wrong?
