Re: Why so expensive son? (cost of audio education)
The hiring priority has always been:
1. friend of a client 2. friend or relative of the owner 3. former intern 4. person having impressive credits 5. person having degree

Person having degree provided they have all the above. I'd say 2 and 4 are the most important. Job hoppers are the most likely to get a position in a studio because they're already working in the industry, followed by friend of the owner.

Maybe in the UK but not what I've seen in the U.S.

Re: Why so expensive son? (cost of audio education)
I mean UK. US no good to me as I don't live there. What's made things worse in the UK is the government introduced an 'equal opportunities' policy, meaning employers have to advertise jobs to give everyone a chance. Most employers adopt this. But what it means is people like me struggle to get positions because they always choose the best candidate. They will always be somebody better. Hence the term 'job hopper'. This policy seals industries because people already working are the ones getting jobs. You can't get in there early, you wouldn't get a job over a beer in a bar.

How much would you be willing to pay for an Audio Engineering Degree?
We get a lot of questions from our users at Audio Assemble around the cost of going to school for an audio engineering degree.
Is it actually worth it? Can you get by with learning on the internet? Background -> I am a software engineer who is self-taught and originally went to school for accounting. While I definitely think there was an uphill battle bypassing traditional university, it is obviously a possibility as I am living proof. I wonder what peoples thoughts are on how this equates to Audio Engineering. |
