Default external fw hard drive help

Whenever I try and set my external fw (400) hard drive as the location for sessions in protools LE (6.2.2 on powerbook G4, panther) it says something about needing the drive to be ready for audio. In the reference guide it also talks about initializing the external drive but in disk utility there is no option for this. Can anyone tell me how to get it to work - it is an empty disk (I deleted all files). Or amm I rambling like an elderly relative...

Go to Disk Utility, select your external drive from the list on the left and then select the 'erase' tab. Make sure you choose Mac OS Extended (but not journaled), name your drive and erase away!

Slim Shady...was I a fool (again?). I went with the recommendation of someone at OWC and bought the OWC 160GB Mercury Pro Elite FW (800 - Oxford 922), thinking it SHOULD work if other PT users are using them. OWC has corrected the Mac G4 FW 800 driver compatibility issue in their drives. It's backword campatible with FW 400, of course, and also supports USB. So, it seemed like the best approach to longevity of the drive and it's uses (possibly as back-up for video, etc., down the road even).

I was going to use it, initially, for music recording (borrowing my partner's G4 1MHz FW 800 computer in the house) trying out GarageBand, but also was hoping to partition the drive and use it with my G4 400MHz dinasour running OS 9.2.2 and Digi 001 5.1.1. No way?

Any thoughts from you on this would be much appreciated!
