I don't know the answer to your question, but in looking through the Sweetwater optimization guides for Windows XP and Windows 7, they are giving different advice regarding Write Caching. For XP they say to uncheck the box that says "enable write caching". For Windows 7 they say to check that box. Curious? In XP, there is no option regarding "Turn off write-cache buffer flushing". so that must be something new for Windows 7.
