Default bad performance in m-powered 8

Hi all,

I'm experiencing terrible performance in pro tools. If I'm running more than a couple of plugins, pro tools starts missing out and jumbling up notes. My system is almost unusable for anything but the most basic of projects. Can anybody shed any light?

Cheers,

J

p.s. I think I've done all the optimizations.

Hello.
Please to say which drive letters your PT install and audio recording space are located on? Partitions letters on the same physical drive are not recommended.
Your qualifying audio device is?

Hi SSE,

Thanks for your quick response.

Protools is installed on my os drive (C). I keep all my content / recording sapce on D, which is a separate drive (not a partition).

What's strange is that I'm having poor performance even when I'm not running any audio regions in PT, i.e. if I load more than a couple of versions of Ivory, or a few instruments in kontakt.

I know that's a lot of sample data to load, but surely my system could be expected to handle it...

What's really strange is exactly what starts to happen when things go wrong - notes start to get missed out, and then clumped together, but whwat's most noticeable is that regions from much later in the timeline start being played way too early and out of time with everything else.

I'm running a Delta 66.

Thanks for your help,
Jonny

Could be a M-audio driver issue. Do you have the latest driver installed? Currently M-audio have 2 for W7 64bit; original & SP1. I note you’re OS is W7 64 SP1.

You have disabled any main board integrated audio devices?

You could try adjusting the H/W Buffer Size setting in the Playback Engine; large buffer size = greater latency.

Hi, and thanks again for your message,

I have the latest drivers and my intergrated device is disabled. Any other ideas?

Cheers,

Have you checked the compatibility of plugin / sampler to current version of PT you are using?
http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=343311

What is the current version of PT you are using?

I only use h/w and what s/w plugins that came with PT.

Have you checked what IRQ your Delta card is using e.g. shared standard/virtual IRQ? I have a similar system to you and when I first installed my 24/96 card it was using a shared virtual IRQ. W7 decides how best to allocate IRQs. To get a standard non shared IRQ allocated to my card I had to gently but firmly shoehorn it (and hope it didn’t snap) in to the bottom legacy PCI slot (slow and very difficult, due to poor routing of cabling in this area).
