Default LUFS Metering in Pro Tools

Does anybody know of any plugins that measure LUFS at 2 decimal places for example -23.01

iZotope Insight only measures 0.0, the same as all the other plugins i've come across.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

There is no spec sheet out there that requires a loudness delivery to the accuracy of two decimal places (at least, I've never seen it and it sounds insane). But if you must, Adobe Audition accurately measures LUFS to two decimal places.

I agree it is insane however you'd be surprised, I think this is a recently new process that broadcasting has brought in.

Take Vidchecker for example it measures in 2 decimal places, thanks for the suggestion of Adobe Audition however I need a plugin that would be able to analyse and measure at 2 decimal places within the session.

Thanks

Have you tried the TC Electronic LM plugin? Works great and is on sale for $49 for the stereo version.

Thanks for the suggestion Eric, but this meter doesn't measure in two decimal places.

... because today's audiences have such acute hearing and have become so sensitive that .01 dB over the course of the program is discernible? That spec is foolish. I'm not suggesting that you don't have to abide by it, but whomever wrote that into the spec is causing more problems than they are solving.

Measuring loudness to 2 decimal places is OK but you cannot trust it. If you take the different loudness meters and measure the same audio they will differ by one decimal place. That is why the pre-recorded delivery spec had to be given a tolerance because of the variations between meters. So now we have a +/- tolerance of 0.5LU so measuring to 2 decimal places is completely pointless.

^^^^ THIS ^^^^

I was doing some work where I was metering with Avid Pro Limiter and had it spot on -23 but when metering it offline later (I think it was with Nugen), it was slightly different. Could be down to implementation of the K-weighted filter or god knows what. One decimal place is tricky, two is currently very unlikely. If you're delivering to a spec that requires that, you're going to need to meter it with exactly the same software first - bit pricey if it's VidChecker!

Good luck,
Pete

Hi,
I think the Nugen and the Dolby meter show 2 decimal places when they create log files (I'd have to check). I have found that the Dolby meter shows the same as Vidchecker. Interestingly I have found that the Nugen and the Dolby meter differ in the true peak readings slightly, something to do with the way they round up to one decimal place?
