Default Apollo 8 and Apollo Twin

Hi all,

My question is this:

If I buy an Apollo 8 (previous gen) with both firewire connection and thunderbolt so that I can use my older Macbook Pro via firewire... Am I then able to, for example, connect the Apollo 8 to the MacBook Pro via firewire, then add my Apollo Twin into the chain using the Thunderbolt connection? will this work? Will the system recognise all the devices the same way just as if it had been done exclusively with Thunderbolt?

Anyone have any experience of this kinda setup?

Thanks

Rosco

Nope. The Apollo (or anything else) cannot convert from Firewire to Thunderbolt (going the other way is trivial), besides an Apollo is either running as a Thunderbolt *or* Firewire interface.

Ok, so, if you use the Firewire port on the Apollo, the thunderbolt ports are then dormant, i.e they do nothing? I'm not trying to convert anything, I just wondered if the Apollo Twin would be recognised if it was connected to the Apollo thunderbolt port.

You *are* asking to convert from Firewire to Thunderbolt. It is the software on your computer that does the "recognition" or aggregation here, you need your computer to talk thorough the Firewire interface to the Thunderbolt interface on another Apollo, which as I explained it can't as a Firewire interface can't convert from Firewire to Thunderbolt.

And yes even if that was possible, the Apollos talks either Firewire or Thunderbolt, both ports are not active.

Next question...
