Default Digi002 problem

Ive just traded my digi 001 for a 002r, when recording my system came to a grinding halt im then greeted with the ball of death and i also here my recording drive make clicking sounds. A reboot is needed but when i restart the machine my recording drive fails to mount! A full switch off is needed to get the drive back.
Has anyone any idea's on this one?
Also to use 96k you really need a fast beast, my system makes nice clicking sound through the monitors during recording and playback.

My system G4 933
1.5 gig memory
1 system drive
1 80 gig 7200rpm drive
os 10.2.8
protools 6.1.2

Could be a failing HD.

Are you recording in 96k? how many tracks at a time? is there anything else connected to your FireWire ports while recording?

Are both of your drives internal?

as per clorox, use Norton (or preferred hard drive diagnostic tool) on your audio drive.

Also, the system ATA bus is only 66 Mhz. Consider purchasing an ATA card (100/133, I prefer Acard/SIIG) and swapping your drives to run off that card instead. The increased bandwidth might help your recording/playback situation.

As for the clicking...sounds like there's a sample mismatch somewhere. Are you using other digital instruments into the 002R? CoreAudio drivers installed?

Hi
Im recording at 96k 1 track at a time there's only the digi002r connected to the firewire port.
Both drives are internal 7200 rpm,the system drive is a seagate 60gb and the audio drive is a 180 gb ibm cavier drive
Ive got a acard aec 6280m contoller card but i had to remove it because it made my system very slow, the pci usage meter in protools was in the red even when there was no playback! Also with the the card installed osx would take forever to boot up.
I think the clicking is the processor having trouble keeping up, im not using any digital equipment
thanks
dean
