Default "Playback engine does not support 44.1 PROBLEM

So got the new 11. When I try to open a 96k session and have the Firewire solo set to 96k, it says "Playback engine does not support 44.1...." But the session is in 96k. When I change the Solo to 44.1 and try to open the file again, it says "Playback engine does not support 96k..."

Any advice please....

Adam

Go into the Firewire solo settings and change them to 96K then restart the computer and open PT first. If that doesn't work you need to Post if you are on a PC or MAC.

Start>Control Panel>Sound> (right click on FireWire Solo) in Playback and Record. Select Properties> Advanced Tab> Uncheck (Give exclusive Control...) Apply for both Playback and Record.

This problem has come up over and over over the years and different versions. It has to do with interference from the computer's sound card. I have a 003 firewire and PT10.3.6 and I found a simple solution.

Click Cntrl-Alt-Delete then select task manager. Click the services tab and scroll down until you find "Windows audio service" and "Windows Audio Endpoint Builder". Right click each and select stop service. You have to stop Endpoint Builder or it wont let you stop Windows Audio. Now go back to protools and try again.

Or disable your interface in the control panel/sound

This works for me, although the only downside is if you want to use iTunes you have to re-enable the soundcard

I get this same error with an MBox Pro (3rd Gen); when opening PT 11 sessions ... sometimes. Kinda random. I have tried using my mBox Control Panel, but even that is iffy.

I'll try some of these fixes. I'm also on a PC (Win 7, 64-bit Home Edition)

Disabling the Windows Audio Service and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder using the Task Manager cured my ills.

[Must restart these processes to hear YouTube/WMP type audio again, but ... so?]

Thank you!

I had exactly the same problem with Win 7 professional 64 bit. Files opened properly with PT10 but not PT11. Your suggestion completely fixed the issue for me.
