Default Mac OS Compatibility or Upgrade?

I have Pro Tools 8.0.4 and a MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.6.8.

This is my only computer and I'm loosing functionality for newer software and hardware. However, I'm afraid to upgrade my OS because of Pro Tools. I don't see anything compatible above OSX 10.6.8.

What would you do? Upgrade the Mac and/or Pro Tools? A new version of OSX probably isn't too expensive. But if Pro Tools 11 is $300, that's way out of my range.

A Core 2 Duo is an older MBP, I don't think it will take the newer 64 bit OSs
You need to check on Apples site for what OSes your MPB can take

Core 2 Duo is 64-bit and can run the newest OSX.

Dual boot setup is an option.
Make a partition on the disk that you boot from to run PT, that holds snow leopard, PT8, plugins and little else. Easy to backup, restore.
Make the rest of the disk the partition you boot from to do everything other than PT. Here you can upgrade OS, install stuff and never worry about the PT compat.

I've had it like this for years and years. Never looked back.

Oh yeah, I never really considered two versions of OSX. That may be my best option right now. Thanks!
