Pro Tools 10 Freezes During Playback

I recently purchased a new Mac Pro 8 core 2.4 Ghz with 8G of ram, OS X 10.7.2, and installed PT 10 on it. I am using a Digi 002 with no problems I previously used for years with a G5 running PT 7.4., which ran like a beast without a complaint, but couldn't handle the newer plug-ins anymore.

I loaded in a mix on the new system off of my Lacie 750 GB hard drive and at first it seemed to running smoothly for a few hours but then PT started freezing up during playback while plug-ins were opened...such as the included channel strip, waves V.8, ect. The program became unresponsive and I had to do a force quit with a full reboot of the mac to restart PT. I'm confident all of my plug-ins are up to date and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with them. Also notable during the freeze-ups was the fact the audio kept playing while PT was completely frozen both on screen and on the Digi 002.

Also problematic yet curious is that the system will not playback and throw an error (-9162 I believe) if I have the buffer size set to anything higher than 512. Extremely odd.

I have totally optimized the Mac for Pro Tools. My current playback set-up is 8 processors running at 99% out of 16 for PT with delay comp. engine set to long.
