Default Thunderbolt drive with MBox Pro (firewire 400)

We have a firewire 400 MBox Pro on an iMac with one firewire 800 port and a Thunderbolt port. We are unable to use any firewire drive with the MBox and have anything like reliability. (Worse than unreliable, it has a bad habit of outputting digital hash from one or more tracks being played back from the firewire drive. Ouch.)

I've given up on solving that problem and have resigned myself to it.

What I'm wondering is whether we're likely to be able to use an external thunderbolt drive without having the same problem. Anyone using this configuration successfully? What kinds of track counts can you get? (Playback is most important to us, but we do occasionally record 1-8 tracks, too.)

TIA,
Tor

People have used Thunderbolt drives just fine, but a cheaper solution would be to Apple's $29 Thunderbolt to firewire adapter with your existing firewire drive. At the very least, it will get your drive on a separate FW buss from your Mbox, which should help a lot.

We probably need more drive space anyway, but thanks for the suggestion. I've considered it and probably should get one anyway.
