Default Pro Tools 10 Slow on windows pc

Hi

I have a Windows 7 64-bit PC with 8Gb of RAM, an I5 intel core CPU, and a decent screan card. So my pc is quite powerful.

I have a problem with my Pro Tools 10 running very very very slow on this pc. I am trying to find out why??

The PC is connected on a domain (network) in the workplace.

It takes about 10 minutes just to start Pro Tools. And then again 10 minutes just to launch a session or change between sessions.

If you Export somthing to the local drive, the program freezes for 5 to 10 minutes.

If you click on say windows explorer and back into Pro Tools it also takes about 5 to 10 minutes to respond again.

Is there anyone that could help me with this problem? It will be much appreciated.

That's normal my friend :) You can only run Pro Tools Fast on a slow Mac and Slow on a Powerful PC .... What a Dilemma :)

Hopefully the next release they would focus more on Windows Systems since the Mac Pro is being discontinued ....

Those are only unfounded rumors. Apple has not announced anything regarding the Mac pro.

I think this is were you need to Begin your trouble shooting.

Computers on a workplace networks can have many limitations to say the least. So, is this your personal PC or is it a workplace PC?

Pro Tools 9 and 10 run very fast on my PC and Macbook Pro.

First thing to try is disconnect from the network and turn networking off. See how it performs then.

Do you have any mapped network drives? I found they can be a real PITA when windows goes looking for them and can't find them.
It can freeze the computer up, just like you described.

If one disables the NIC card in win7 device manager, then re-enable when you need network connection, would this suffice?

Thanks
Rob

It would as long as it actually helps(which is why I suggested trying it). On my 2 systems, PT10 works well overall, but certain things are slower than they were in PT9. Specifically, opening many plugins(especially instrument plugins), and opening a session. I also find that when I first open Pro Tools, when the window comes up about Open Recent, Start New Session, etc....If I cancel that, it takes 5-7 seconds before the menu names across the top come into view. If I click on something while the menus are grey'd out, or if I click on anything while waiting for a plugin to open, PT may go to a grey screen and freeze. As long as I am patient, and watch for those menu titles to turn black, all is well. But yes, it does feel like its slow because of this(but normal editing works fine). And I am on i7 machines with 12GB of RAM, so its gotta be PT and not the computers, which both ran PT9 just dandy. Maybe an update will solve this

Are others experiencing this? (I'm still on 9...)
