clocking in clocking out

i think if i'm heading out lightpipe through the adat i have to sync adat to mac clock.
at present i wouldn't want to alter that obviously, but if i fulfil the prophesy, i'll aquire a pre-loved O1V.
hoping to hear improvement the Q. is:
can i clock to an external source whilst outputing audio via optical?

oh yeah the reason i ask is, i know i can select sync either way but if i didn't send it in the same direction as i/o (like i earlier had to transfer adat tracks to LE and adat was clack master)there were hideous pop and crackles

empirically, would it suck clocking to an O1V anyone?

how abouuut- i heard M-box has unacceptable jaggedness approaching zero above 1k2 that can only be detected on Mackies at 48.

I have an O1V and it doesn't seem to matter which is master,the O1V or DIGI.
The manual says to set the mixer as master clock while tracking and ProTools as master clock while mixing.I have forgot to change it many times with no ill afect.
You may want to try a critical listening test though just to see which clock is best.
