I really like the sound of the H-Reverb. I'm trying to get Waves to grant me an extra week demo so I can put it up against the ones I'm trying. They've done it before, so hopefully they'll help me out again (I already used my H-Reverb trial).

It's come down to H-Reverb, Valhalla Vintage Verb and Seventh Heaven (regular ver). I haven't tried loading them until my CPU craps out yet. That could be what it comes down to.

I also like the free TAL-Reverb 2. There are a ton of free verbs, but that one seems to be the only freebie in AAX format.

Do you guys usually put some kind of reverb on every instrument/track? I know that every session is different, and you give it what it needs, but there are still those standard things that are generally used every time.

I only put reverb on a track that needs it. I also tend to use just one reverb so everything is in the same space. That's not to say I won't use a reverb for a special effect for a particular track and my favorite for that is Eventide's Blackhole reverb.

As to specific usage for specific instrument I like plates on drums and to a lesser extent on pianos.

This.

I'm always amazed when I see mixes with 4-10 different reverbs going in a session. Like mentioned above, using a global reverb judiciously helps glue everything together.

As MM mentioned, special effects are different.

Yes! It's almost a virtual instrument as anything you put through it changes character very notably. Amazing piano sounds you can create with it :)

Funny you mention that. Back when I was playing around when I first got it I put it on a solo piano track from Phantom of the Opera and it literally brought the piece to life that it was missing. It's not for everything. I'll bet the late/great Les Paul would have loved this reverb

For my, the best surround space reverb. It fills the music in such a beautiful way, that I can't live without it when mixing music in surround.

I don't mean to be a smart aleck about this but who knows? Waves has done some crazy sales before with no rhyme or reason to the end dates. Before they started this level of pricing they would have weekend sales which by definition had known start/end dates. Something interesting about this current sales from Waves is they seem to have dropped the full price on all the plugins (180 or so) in the sale. For instance H-Reverb used to have a full price of $349 and now that's down to $199 with a sale price of $49. Same kind of price drop scenario in the rest of the group.

I know it's bad form to quote your own posts but there's an update and that is the so-called full pricing on the Waves site has gone back up to the old level across the board. Haven't checked in this morning but saw this last night. The sale though is still ongoing.

I have to wonder what's going on with Waves and this seeming fire sale? Are they trying to drum up funds for new development? I know they've had a couple of new instrument plugins lately.

H-Reverb is still at $49. Tonight I'm testing the CPU drain of each plug and then making my decision. Gonna put it on every track 'til I crash PT. I'm having trouble deciding between the H-Reverb, VintageVerb and Seventh Heaven (regular ver).

While what you're doing may be a way to test for cpu load remember that it's not the way to actually use reverb. To keep cpu load down and to have everything in one sonic space you really should only have one reverb with sends from the tracks you want reverb on to the aux track with the reverb plugin of your choice.
