Turning on Automation causes playback error

I'm just mixing a track a each time I turn on the automation my keyboard transport control goes out the window. Spacebar won't trigger playback. It's like the keyboard gets unplugged! Having to save and restart the session everytime. Tried toggling keyboard command focus on and off but no joy. Help!

Do you have Dynamic Transport and/or Transport Online enabled? They're under the Options menu.

Yes have checked these and toggling between modes has no effect. As soon as I have recorded any automation my keyboard stops working!

What exactly are you trying to do with automation?

In this case I'm automating a simple EQ sweep on a drum loop, but the problem occurs no matter what function I'm attempting to automate: simple volume rides, plugins, mutes, anything at all. As soon as I have written any automation I lose keyboard control. The keyboard continues to function as normal outside of PT (typing into Spotlight for example).

Yeah I'd try that and if that doesn't help, try a clean uninstall/reinstall of Pro Tools.
