xl lead in pt 8 midi to audio

hello all ..i have not used any midi in ages here in pt 8 ..what would be the best way to record the midi as audio in pt8 ..i am using a digi 003 ..i have the midi out of the xl lead to the midi in on the digi 003 ..should i hook the audio out of the xl lead to the mixer board or route the audio out of the xl lead to inputs 3 and 4 on the digi 003 ..just alittle confused how to record the sounds into pt as audio when playing them as midi in pt. i hope i made myself clear here ..trying to use the sound module for the sounds but want to use them as audio and not midi for better ways to alter the audio.thanks in advance

Are u tryin to record the keys sound from ur board or are u wanting to use VI's in PT?

tryin to record the sounds from my emu xl lead into protools ...u seem to be the man here ,how would u do this setup? ...got my xl lead and my midi controller ... have the xl lead midi out into the midi in of the 003..got the audio out out xl to inputs 3 and 4 of 003 ...my thing is i want to be able to just change the sounds in the xl lead and record as audio and not worry about any program changes or anything like that ...also would u go audio out to the 003 and not to mixer correct? is ther any settings in the 003 i have to make to make this work ..i am also tryin to get this to work in logic also since i use both ..thanks again for ur time it is greatly appreciated
