Default Retrospective MIDI record not working

Hi,

I installed 2018.1 last night on my MBP and I can't seem to get retrospective MIDI record working. Has anyone had this problem? Am I missing a setting somewhere to enable the feature?

Thanks in advance... -Matt

just tested .. and all is working perfectly ..

1) track must be in record mode or in Prefs / Midi / Default Thru Instrument / First Selected Midi Track - should be selected

2) you will now see your Meters oving on the selected TRack not where your Cursor is ..

did this help ????

Hi John,

Thanks for responding and your suggestions. This is really irritating and may be something very simple however...

Here's what I've tried:

Creating an instrument track (and tried with several instruments both Avid and 3rd Party), record enabled the track and I am able to hear and see midi data register on meter when I play. I start playing the session and play along, I can hear what I'm playing and see it on the meters. When I stop and either hit shift+C or choose from the 'Event Menu+Retrospective Record' nothing shows up on the track.
When I press record and start recording the midi records no problem. I see it recording as I play.

I tried creating a separate midi track, routed to the instrument track, record enabled it and start playing along (again I can hear myself and see the data registering on the meter), but...nothing appears when I stop and hit shift+C or choose from the 'Event Menu+Retrospective Record'. ...and again, when I press record and start recording the midi records no problem and I see it recording as I play.

In both of the above cases, the track I'm recording on is selected/highlighted in the 'Edit' window

I've tried it with the 'Midi Merge' enabled and disabled.
I've tried restarting the computer
I've tried enabling and disabling 'First Selected Midi Track' in my prefs

Am I missing anything?!?

Thanks again. Any insight would be hugely appreciated.
-Matt

Hi,

I just tried it again with the cursor in the corresponding midi track just to be sure I tried it that way and still no good. I've been thinking for a minute about updating to High Sierra so maybe that and re-installing Pro Tools might work.

I usually hold off on OS updates as long as I can when i have a good stable set-up. Remnants of the good ole days on OS 8 & 9 when anything could disrupt your system and force you to re-install everything...

I'll definitely give you an update either way. It'll be interesting to see how 2018.1 works on my iMac. I wont be back in my studio until Monday...

Thanks again. I'll be out for a while but if anything comes to mind that I may have over looked, please let me know...

Having the same issue. I've tried several different tracks and instruments, all in record input mode. Nada. Strange.

Hey soundfx,

What system are you running and on what machine?

I'm running a MacBook Pro (late 2015) 2.8ghz i7, 16gb RAM, 1TB SSD, OS X 10.12.6.

Wondering if it has anything to do with the system or machine we're using... -M

hmm, i just tried it and it worked perfectly first time.

I even tried to "trick it" by having the track i wasn't playing on selected..

and the one below it record armed.

I played notes during playback, nothing appeared as i wasn't recording, then when i used the retro record function, it appeared on the record enabled track, *exactly* as intended and as the video shows.

Hey TNM,

Which machine did you get it working on? Look's like we have the same Laptop which is where i'm having the issue. I won't be able to test it on my iMac until Monday. Did it just 'start' working or did you change something? Thanks... -Matt
