Digi Tech Support, please help (or anyone:)
for the second time, in 2 weeks, on 2 totally different HD3 systems, i'm getting this series of session ending messages from PT, in this order:
1. SWOD, when clicking anywhere on timeline, or pressing play 2. (-30) 3. Assertion in "/Volumes/Development/vb_blues/ AlturaPorts/PT4_App/Mdie/MacBuild/../ Mdie_TrackPlayer.cpp", line 469 4. A problem occurred while updating the video track 5. A problem occurred trying to clear video to black. Quit Pro Tools and reset your video hardware. sadly, a simple quit is not possible from this point, only a force quit, which often takes many many attempts. interestingly, one can actually save their session during this process. the first time it happened, after a couple days of hair-pulling out, trying everything (following all digi instructions), including a re-install of PT, removal of all but mixer plug ins, etc, i finally made the problem go away by replacing the internal sata video drive. i'm finding it hard to believe that another drive, on an other system, has gone bad. (not even 100% sure that was the true cause of the other sytem's problem, but it did in fact solve it, so...) but hey, anything's possible. however, in this case, the drive seems absolutely fine. when you take the video track offline (if you can without it crashing), it does seem to play fine, so clearly its related to the video playback. System info: Mac Pro 2 x 3 Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon 4 GB Ram OS 10.5.8 3 internal sata drives: 500gb Sytem Drive 250 GB Audio Drive 1 TB Video Drive HD3 Accel Sync I/O 192 Mojo PT8.0.1 (also tried 8.0.1cs1, same issue) help, please? Don't have an answer Joe, but know that you're not alone.
I'm on a similar set-up, and the freeze seems to be related to video. I often get the xox bus thread error message. If I begin recording video, stop and start again I get the freeze. If I don't change from default component to needed composite input, I get the freeze. I did find that 90% of the time video really is there, but I need to re-import from video drive. This has been happening with a mojo and external fw drive (have seperate fw card). Still occurs with an internal SATA drive. Yes, I've trashed digibases etc. I've been told by Digi that they've never heard of the problem... I'll let you know if I figure this out JJ |

craig - been there, done that. followed all digi recommended trashing to the letter, and then some, no benefit.
jj - thanks for the empathy:) hoping digi will see this and weigh in. i have 3 HD rooms with nearly identical configs, and its happened in 2 of them, cured in 1, so now 2 rooms fine, 1 room bad. don't 'assertion' errors mean something in particular is wrong?

Re: Digi Tech Support, please help (or anyone:)
Joel, this exact same thing was happening to me a year or so ago on 7.4. The culprit for me ended up being the TL Space plug-in. Once I stopped using it altogether and removed it from my plug-ins folder, I never had the problem again. Odd because it had worked fine for several months. It may have started crashing after a CS update - I can't remember.
Even if you aren't using TL Space, perhaps it is another plug-in causing the same behavior? I dunno. Weird. Good luck. -Sam
